Many Teenagers And Young Adults Eat Fast Food More Than Three Times Per Week
Researchers at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health have discovered that over 20% of teenagers consume fast food more than 3 times per week.
The researchers used data from Project EAT (Eating Among Teens). They received data from 1,686 young adults (45% male). At the start of the project the average age of the participants was 15.9 years and the average age at follow-up was 20.5 years. The data they received included results from a survey that had questions about fast food intake.
The researchers found that once these teenagers became young adults, males who frequently ate fast food increased to 33% but the percentage of females who frequently ate fast food did not increase.
Young men and women from lower-income families were most likely to report consuming fast food at least three times per week. Fast food intake among women was found to be linked to working hours, student status, and living situation. The researchers found that regular fast food consumption was most common with women who work 40 or more hours per week. Alternately, they found that regular fast food consumption was the least common with women attending a four-year college and those living on a college campus.
That’s a large percentage of teenagers and young adults eating fast food frequently. This will certainly have an impact on the percentage of obese adults. Unfortunately, with the percentage of obese children increasing, it seems like these trends will continue. It looks like McDonald’s will do well in the years to come.

hi i think fast food is bad for you but wat i do is i eat like once in 1 a month or 2 month and cook more often!
Thanks for the comment. I would say that it’s ok to eat fast food once every month or so, but 2 to 3 times per week will get you into trouble. Cooking your own food is certainly the way to go.

I think we are about to see a nice increase in obesity world-wide so keep an eye on those figures by 2010. Either they’re sky rocket or drop into the sewers. Depends on what way the world will choose to go.
Im 26 and I have really cut down on the fast food that I eat. I feel better and even lost some weight, but I have to admit that I still get cravings for burger king all the time lol

Indeed, this in unfortunately true. teenagers don’t realize how much harm fast-food products can do to their body and health system. Education coming from their parents since they are young children should teach them how to eat properly and take care of their own healt.

Im terribly guilty of these, it comes down to lazyness. We have such a busy household we just dont have the time to go shopping. We have to start as we are spending a fortune on fast food, all thos 9.99’s add up VERY quickly
