Top 20 Healthy Eating Cities
Cooking Light recently released its top 20 cities that best fit their philosophy to “eat smart, be fit, and live well.” In order to rank U.S. cities, they looked at statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Zagat Survey.
The Pacific Northwest fared well with Seattle, WA coming in at first and Portland, OR taking second place. Seattle was ranked first due to “fresh local foods, walker-friendly streets, and inclusive attitudes”. Portland was ranked second due to “seemingly endless supply of outdoor activities, cutting-edge restaurants, and vibrant environmental consciousness”.
Also ranked high were Washington, D.C., Boston, and Denver. The only Southeastern city on the list was Atlanta because of it is a young city with several dining options. Not mentioned in the article, but Atlanta is also close to several outdoor opportunities including the Ocoee and Chattooga Rivers.
Interestingly, Las Vegas made the last at 19th place due to excellent restaurants. Las Vegas ranked third in Cooking Light’s highest rated restaurants. Also not mentioned by Cooking Light, but Las Vegas can be used as a hub to get to excellent rock climbing and mountain biking opportunities.
