ADA weight loss tips
Today, the American Diabetes Association released their Clinical Practice Recommendations. The revised Recommendations, which help health care providers treat people with diabetes or at risk for diabetes using the most current evidence available, include a revision in the nutrition section indicating that diets restricting carbohydrates or fat calorie intake are equally effective for reducing weight in the short term (up to one year).

- Set realistic goals. Aim for 1-2 pounds per week.
- Set-up a support system of family, friends, and/or co-workers who will support your weight loss plans
- Keep a food journal of everything you eat. Write it down even when you cheat. These records can be helpful when you reach a plateau or if the weight is coming off too slowly.
- Gradually change your food habits. This will make it easier to stick with it and get used to your new diet.
- Keep track of your physical activity as well. It is important to increase your level of activity as your body adapts.
